Adenomyosis is a gynaecological disease of the uterus and is a form of endometriosis. Endometriosis has a higher risk of spreading to other areas of the body. The incidence of adenomyosis and endometriosis is 10 per cent at fertile age. In total, around 4 million patients in Germany and 200 million patients worldwide are affected. There is currently no way of reliably recognising adenomyosis at an early stage.
With the help of MRI examinations, standardised 3D image data of the pelvis can be generated. In this image data, the soft tissues of the body are clearly recognised, differentiated and weighted (multiparametric MRI). Complementary contrasts and so-called "isovolumetric" data sets capture the anatomy of the uterus as well as pathological changes depending on the individual menstrual cycle of the woman being examined.
