Dr med Saskia von Stillfried

Institute of Pathology, University Hospital RWTH Aachen

Why are you involved in the NUM?

Because networked research is not only important for research into COVID-19, but also for research into other infectious and non-infectious diseases.

Where do you see the greatest opportunities if all university hospitals conduct joint research?

That we can all think outside the box and learn from each other.

Tell us a technical term from your job that sounds exciting and that only the real experts understand! What does the term mean?

"Raspberry jelly-like". Real experts immediately think of the tumour foci of multiple myeloma in the bone when they hear this term. They do indeed look raspberry jelly-like. Interestingly, there are traditionally many metaphorical descriptions in pathology that everyone can immediately visualise.

What excites you about your job?

That I can look at beautiful images under the microscope, solve diagnostic puzzles and be creative in my research.
