An abstract by Dr Anette Friedrichs from the Academic Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH) was recognised as particularly relevant at ESCMID 2024 - the conference formerly known as ECCMID is one of the world's largest conferences in infectiology and clinical microbiology: "Use of antibiotics in patients hospitalized for COVID-19: no beneficial effect on clinical outcome or course of disease".

Shimita Sikdar also presented the poster "A Cost and Resource Utilisation Study of COVID-19 Patients Treated in German Tertiary Care Hospitals" at the conference. The study, which is still ongoing, analyses the direct and indirect costs of inpatient treatment of COVID-19 patients at German academic medical centres.
