Brief portrait

After a primarily structural development phase, I would like to work in the FOSA Advisory Board in the next electoral term to ensure that we primarily exchange information on medical content in order to utilise the wide range of expertise from the FOSAs and to define and work on scientific issues. Together, we can achieve a great deal across all disciplines and help shape the research landscape through our commitment.

I have been head of the Institute of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine at Greifswald University Medicine since 2002. My experience in the planning and implementation of epidemiological studies (SHIP) and my profound knowledge in the field of sample collection and sample processing have firmly anchored me in the NAKO as spokesperson for the Biomaterials and Laboratory Analyses EG. In addition, I am the spokesperson for the scientific infrastructure for clinical studies of the DZHK. My primary scientific interest lies in biomarker research and in particular in the application of NMR analysis in the field of metabolomics. Since 2012, I have been working for the German Medical Association on the guideline for quality assurance of laboratory medical examinations and have been chairman of the advisory board since 2015. I have been involved in the NUM from the very beginning and have helped to implement the infrastructure for prospective studies. I have over 600 publications with more than 20,000 citations.
